Disaster Cycle Services

The American Red Cross Disaster Cycle Services Program provides immediate relief to victims of disasters, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Red Cross aims to respond to all disasters in Eastern South Dakota within two hours of notification. On the scene of a disaster, and now remotely with COVID-19, staff and trained volunteers provide emergency assistance to disaster victims to meet their immediate needs. A disaster may include, but is not limited to, a home fire, a flooded home, tornadoes, a collapsed roof due to heavy snow, lack of water due to water pipe breakage, a building collapse, interstate closure due to extreme weather conditions, or damage to a home due to a vehicle accident. A disaster may destroy everything from priceless keepsakes to the necessities for the activities of daily living, or it may impede travel safety and security. No matter what the size or scale of the disaster, the Red Cross can provide food, shelter, toiletries, referral for long-term assistance, and in some cases financial assistance.
