More about Senior Companions of South Dakota
Volunteers also help to alleviate loneliness. To become eligible to be a Senior Companion you must be 55+ years or older, meet an income guideline, and be willing to serve 15 hours a week. Our Companions receive a tax-free stipend of $3/hour, mileage reimbursement, paid personal leave, and holidays. Many studies have shown there’s a connection between volunteering and better health and well being.
Senior Companions of SD is a federal grant program administered by CNCS (Corporation for National and Community Service). The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society has been the sponsor of this grant since 1978.
